Autobiography of Eugene Wohler

I was born on August 8th, 1938 in St. Joseph, Michigan.  At the age of eight, I moved to New Jersey with my mother and step dad.  At the age of thirteen, I moved back to Michigan and lived with my father.  I attended St. Joseph High School (class of 1956), worked in my father's IGA grocery store and spent my summers in New Jersey on the Jersey shore.
In 1955 I joined the U.S. Navy, went to the Navel School of Photography in Pensacola, Florida and earned the rank of Photographer's Mate Third Class.  I was stationed in Washington D.C., where I spent my whole hitch without ever stepping foot on a ship.
I married my first wife while in the Navy and we had two children, Sharon Lee (1960) and Eric Eugene (1963).  We divorced and in 1978, I married Janis Poschke (class of 65) who had a daughter, Christine Ann. We have three grandsons and a great grandson with Chris and a granddaughter with Sharon.
After leaving the Navy in 1959, I went to work for my father in the grocery store.  In 1973, I left the store and went to work at Indiana & Michigan Electric Co., where I worked for 25 years as a Sub Station mechanic working on high voltage circuit breakers and transformers.  With mixed emotions, joy and happiness, I retired early at age 60.
My hobbies are computers (novice), photography, travel and lots of honey do's.  We have seen the east coast from Massachusetts to Florida and of course, the Midwest.  We have been West including Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, Southern California and states in between.  We have visited the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Death Valley, Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone and others. We did most of our travels in a travel trailer.  Probably the most memorable was our trip to Hawaii, of course without the trailer. We have since sold the trailer and now travel by automobile and group tours.
In 2002, I had a quadruple heart bypass at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.  My general health is fair to good and hoping to have many more years of travel (depending on gas prices which are now at $2.89).
We reside in Stevensville, Michigan and are active members of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church.
